In 2017 Delson was awarded a Commission by Unlimited to develop Project PULL UP. Delson composes his own music inspired by his Jamaican heritage; combining references of reggae and dancehall music with experimental electronic beats and rap vocalisatons. PULL UP is a reference to Delson’s love of sound system culture and the tradition of re-starting records in reggae and dancehall DJing.

The project was Commissioned and supported by Unlimited, celebrating the work of disabled artists, with funding from Spirit of 2012.

Project PULL UP

Phase 1:

Delson created an 11 track concept album with mentoring from Bulblet. The product was cool electronic experimental music.

It was important that this process was really integral to Delson’s artistic vision. Delson communicates using an iPad, drawings, gesture and mime, picture symbols and vocalisations of a limited range of singular words. You can read more about their process here.

The PULL UP album is available to listen to on Soundcloud

BLINK were selected by Romanian producer Halima Habil who arranged for Delson to launch his album in Romania at Fabrica de Pensule and Macaz Coop. Check out this amazing video made by Helen Burningham which really encapsulates this experience….

Project PULL UP

Phase 2:

Delson directed BLINK performers in a creative response to his tracks.

Delson decided he wanted the PULL UP piece to be an animation of each individual track rather than have a linear narrative.

Delson worked with artist Zuhura Plummer to create a Visual Guide to his music for Deaf audiences. This was made into a leaflet that was handed out before the performance.
